Explaining COE --- Fusible art glass typically has a COE of 96 or 90. The COE notes the rate at which a piece contacts and expands. In fusing or slumping, the COE's must be compatible or glass will crack during firing. Slumpy's ceramic molds have a COE of 65-70, which means they contract and expand at a SLOWER RATE than fusible art glass. Because of this, when you drape glass outside the mold, the glass may crack, but will become nearly impossible to remove without damaging the glass and/or the mold. Happy Accidents --- When glass is brought to fusing temperature, pieces of glass combine and form a piece two layers thick. Because of this, if a fused glass creation is not decorated with enough glass to fuse to an even 2-layers, the glass will pull together in some places, and leave holes like these in others. While sometimes this can ruin your piece, at other times the holes may form a fun design like this heart--- it looks like eyes and a nose! HAPPY accidents!
